Review on Cobra MicroTalk FRS310WX 14 Channel Water Resistant by Melvin Man

Great FRS radio with Nextel like features

First I bought a set of old FRS radios for camping and RV use. Unfortunately, these radios weren't very usable in the real world - too much noise, poor reception, and so on. A few days ago I accidentally found this Cobra 310WX and could have thrown other radios in the bin. Cobra FRS not only has the 14 standard channels, but also 38 sub-channels, so you can rest assured that you won't bump into other conversations. You can even encrypt your conversation so only your family members can hear you when using another Cobra radio. When using this radio at work I was able to pre-program some frequencies into presets. I can also scan all channels for traffic, scan presets only, and even listen to two channels at the same time. Another great feature is 10 weather channels. Now you can press the call button for the Nextel-like features and your friends or family will hear a beep or feel a vibration (it vibrates!) letting them know the upcoming call is coming. When you release the talk button, the caller hears a double ring (to tell them to answer). You can disable or selectively enable all of these features. I can't say enough good things about this phone. A few more things: very small, fits on belt like a pager. The antenna pivots to the side behind the radio. Additional batteries can be charged in the case - there are charging pads on the back. The learning curve is a bit steep, but after reading the manual, the features are well laid out.

Pros
  • battery charging pad
Cons
  • crumpled
