I have tried several different spool holders and am really impressed. I use the stiff end to poke a hole in the paper sticker above the spool of thread and then insert the longer part into the spool of thread. Since I really don't want any more pieces, I just tape a loose piece of thread between the metal spool and the spool holder rubber. Just note that once you use them, you can no longer store bobbins in the thread organizer, which requires you to place bobbins on a pin. That didn't bother me, so I immediately ordered another set of these wonderful organizers!
