Our only cat and my husband have a contentious relationship due to his scratching habits. Every time he was unhappy, he scratched our carpets. At the recommendation of a behaviorist, we looked for a different rug. It wasn't recommended but I like the size and gave it a try. Mel ONLY scratches it and enjoys it. Our other cat loves it too.
