I have a wide range of CCTV cameras including pan/tilt models, older non-HD models and round HD models. These new security cameras from D-Link are my new favorite. The form factor is excellent - very small and unobtrusive for situations where you don't want to feel like you're in a bank. The power supply is a standard micro USB, which is a good choice as it means you don't lose your entire camera if the power supply fails. The resolution (720) and FOV (120) aren't as impressive as the D-Link Omna HD camera (1080 and 180 respectively), but this HD Mini is also about three times cheaper than the Omna, hence the value for money this model is excellent. Installation using the D-Link app was very easy - worked the first time I added new cameras to my existing device list. In terms of physical design (very discreet), performance (good viewing angle, good resolution) and price, this is a great security camera. In fact, in my opinion, this is currently the best choice on the market. One caveat: this camera is best placed at chest or eye level. It does not have an adjustable incline base. So if you mount it high like a tall bookshelf, you'll see more of the ceiling than the floor. For the ones I put up I use small plastic washers but the angle is still not right. Best placed on a counter, dresser, desk or bookshelf. The small, discreet form factor is a big plus, but with an adjustable base, this trade-off is worth careful consideration as it limits the flexibility of where this camera is placed. UPDATE: I recently installed a couple of these at an elderly relative's apartment and found a bug which may or may not be an issue for you. The camera makes an audible click when switching from daylight mode to low light (IR) mode. No problem if it only happens once a day. However, when the camera is in automatic mode, where it automatically switches modes depending on the available light, and there is a variable light source (e.g. a TV screen) in its field of view, the camera will switch repeatedly and a click will be heard each time heard. This really draws attention to the camera and can be annoying. Not a problem if you're using a camera to monitor an empty house, but if you're using a camera to monitor an elderly relative and want the camera to be discreet and forgotten, this can be a real problem. This is still my favorite price/performance camera for most applications but if you want a device that is both audibly and visually unobtrusive I would only give this model 3 STARS. Choose according to your situation.
