I have mixed feelings about this. I have a 39" waist so I ordered the XL. It was tight enough to give me a defined waist without rolling or pulling. I decided if it was good as it came, it would be better if I loosened the laces to give myself a tiny bit more space. Sadly, that ruined it. I didn't unlace it completely, just loosened it slightly and after that the fit was terrible. It rolled and bunched and I didn't end up using it. It's true to size, but if you order it I would highly advise against altering it in any way. Maybe adding another Velcro panel would work, but don't do anything to the laces.
