First off these plugs appear solid, well made, with good clean threads and for some purposes they will probably great thing is that a lot of plumbing fittings (as well as gas fittings) use TAPERED NPT threads (the same was my original one), but these plugs aren't tapered - they're straight threads. Side by side photo of my original fork. It looks like the original owner of this RV pulled the plug a couple of times with pliers and broke the head (the hexagonal part where they were supposed to use the socket). I chose this pack to have spare plugs for life. As you can see in the picture, the threads on the new plug are longer and the head shorter than my old plug, but for my heater none of these issues are a problem for my heater configuration. If you look very closely you can see that my original orange connector has tapered threads on the left side. (The taper is negligible, but here I measured it with a micrometer.) The diameter of the thread is largest near the head and tapers slightly thinner towards the open end (just like a gas pipe thread). This way you can start hand threading and the further you pull the thread the tighter it will pull. So with my original plug I could screw it in 90% by hand and then just tighten it with the socket. the last piece for a watertight seal every time without teflon tape. This is important as my drain plug isn't very accessible (which is probably why the last guy just hit it with a punt and used pliers). I can only do one full turn by hand with the new connector, but other than that I have to get in with a wrench or socket and push it all the way through, which takes a while due to the longer threaded section. I'm not worried about damaging the threads of my heater's drain line as the plastic plug will "give" before the metal, but it just isn't as easy to use as the original. I only use my camper a couple of times per season so I like to drain the water heater between uses otherwise the water gets uncomfortable so fighting those new plugs quickly becomes tedious. I can't tell if it's really water. -tight, as I have already winterized my camper and drained the water from the heater. One last thing, my old plug fit snugly into a 15/16" jack. The new one is a little wobbly with a 15/16" jack, but too big for a 7/8 jack. Most likely the closest metric equivalent. Don't send it back, I'll probably find another use for them, but it's not what I expected. Hope that helps!
