I used a gold rod on a new 20 gauge Remington 1100 LT. The gold really makes the engraving stand out on the dark blue case and barrel. Easy to apply and I agree with another user's recommendation: wipe the gold off with a paper towel which I believe leaves more gold on the engraving than using a soft cloth. I can't comment on durability, but I imagine the filler will last longer if you handle it carefully. It's a nice change of pace, though, and gold is a perfect choice for navy firearms. Update: The gold inlay seems to be holding up well. Photo after 100 shots with a sports target and complete cleaning of the barrel and slide.
