Sealed, maybe forever.

While definitely airtight, they're best used for climbers, blacksmiths, full-time oyster pickers, and others with unusually high finger strength. Due to excessive tolerances or poor quality control, the variation in cap sizes results in some caps being tight and others incredibly tight. The gasket design makes it much easier to put the lid on than it is to take it off, so you only know for sure when the lid is practically permanently bonded to the jar.
