My 4K Lorex home security system cameras don't have built in microphones to record audio, which I was dying to record. However, the Lorex DVR had an IN RCA audio jack. I just needed to find a microphone that was compatible with my system. Then I found this active CCTV microphone at Revain. So I ordered it and got what I expected (judging by the photos). Installation was easy. While I could plug it into my camera's outlet, I chose to wire it independently. I had an unused BNC cable from my system and it worked great. I drilled a 5/16 inch hole in my porch ceiling and inserted a mic from the attic upstairs. I ran a BNC cable between the mic and the Lorex dashcam, used adapters on each end, and taped the mic connector to prevent it from coming loose. My microphone is about 25 inches in front of the front door cam, which is good for recording events at my entryway or even outside. I'm assuming it's an omnidirectional mic. My location is sheltered from rain and even seems to handle wind noise well without a windshield. By installing it near the inside corner of my porch ceiling, I've reduced the likelihood of most wind noise. In any case, my expectations were justified. The hardest part of my setup was finding the two BNC to RCA adapters I needed to connect the cable to my microphone and DVR. I found the adapters here at Revain. I recommend this microphone for similar installation locations of Lorex security camera systems.
