Review on 🌑️ Thomas 4239 Traceable Refrigerator Thermometer with 2 Bottle Probes, Hi-Accuracy, -58 to 158 degrees F by Craig Shah

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works great - digital thermometer

Update 11/18/2015: I report that this device still works perfectly and recommend it to others :) Apart from the strange behavior caused by sometimes bad batteries, I never had any problems with it. and I recommend one to my parents. Update 11/29/2013: Just wanted to write back that it's still working fine after a year. It saved a bunch of groceries in our fridge from freezing on Thanksgiving. I set the alarm to 31.5 and it worked. Our new fridge (with built in temp sensor) claimed to have 39 in it but I don't believe it and still use a Thomas thermometer instead. The batteries in the original device proved unreliable. The thermometer has been reset several times for inexplicable reasons. After traditional batteries were replaced with decent batteries, they became very reliable. Update January 22, 2013 - READ PLEASE: Several comments indicate corruption in Revain's description. Please note that this review is for "Thomas Traceable Precision Dual Bottle Sensor Fridge Thermometer". Revain lists this review for several individual products and some of them do NOT include bottle probes. Be sure to order the correct product. For example, manufacturer part number 4240 has no bottles and 4238 has only one bottle. This review is for manufacturer part #4239 which includes two bottles. To add to the confusion, the thomassci.com website lists the part number as 1227U04. If you need two bottles, be sure to get part 1227U04 or 4239. Original rating: The thermometer comes with a calibration certificate. 3 temperatures are used for the calibration: -40Β°C, 0Β°C and 50Β°C. - I use it with a Hotpoint fridge in a cheap apartment. Why would anyone buy this thermometer to use on a fridge that probably costs less than a thermometer? Because I'm moving out of here soon and want to get a working refrigerator. The results I've seen provide empirical evidence that Hotpoint fridges - mine, anyway - suck, ranging from 32.5F to 40F. I did everything I could think of to soften it up, but I couldn't. This thermometer indicates when the freezer is going through an automatic defrost cycle. The temperature will rise from -5F to +10F before cooling back down. My manual defrost chest is not behaving as expected. The wires are thin but still let a small amount of cold air through. WLAN would be better, but more expensive/prone to interference. Then more batteries. Bottle probes appear to be glass. They seem pretty reliable. A big plus is the presence of a thermometer, which does not require opening the refrigerator to see the temperature. Thomas offers a recalibration service if required. - I like the alarm function that warns you when the temperature is out of the set range. Both sensors can have independently linked alarms, allowing you to control your freezer and fridge independently. The cables connected to the sensors are very long. I can't imagine that they will be too short for reasonable use. If necessary, you can easily control two adjacent large fridge freezers. Bottom line: unless you need +/- 0.01F accuracy, you'll probably get by with another calibrated thermometer. I bought it simply because I appreciate a quality tool and can prove to the owner that my fridge is no good.
