I have found the hook halter to be much easier to use, especially with youngsters who often don't have the patience to stand up to tie. With the hook, you can just zip it up and work on patience as needed. I saw a lot of young people running away during the draw, which could lead to more problems in the future. I understand the safety associated with using non-metal halters, but there is also a safety factor associated with catching. I've tried converting halters to hooks but cost $8 or more for the hook alone and then the time it takes to convert the halter. just not worth it. This is a well made halter and can be easily adjusted to size.
