They have a kind of fuzz - they feel soft when I squeeze my hand in one direction, but they aren't as soft in the opposite direction. They started to curl up after a while so they are less soft and not my first choice. I bought them just because of the size and also hoping they are as soft as advertised. Just a few years ago sheets and slipcovers could be made very soft, they were heaven, but the industry has gone to great lengths to cut corners and is now softening the fabric with chemicals that need to be washed after purchase. The initial softness out of the box isn't right. These covers look good quality and are oversized and do not shrink when washed in warm water as I don't think things come clean in cold water. I'm very picky about the softness of the linens and can only marginally recommend them as they aren't as soft by the time shedding starts and they still pill. However, they are better than many others claiming the softness of Egyptian cotton.
