This is a great nitrifying bacteria booster to start an aquarium cycle or to replenish bacteria after vacuuming/water changing the substrate. I use it in all my tanks. Fluval is a great brand and their bacteria booster is a lot cheaper than other brands. It even contains bioflakes (they look like small beige dots) that greatly increase the ability of bacteria to multiply. need food in the form of ammonia; which you can provide with a very small drop of pure ammonia (household cleaners), ghost feeding (add fish food to a tank with no fish), or by putting something in the tank that will decompose like a frozen shrimp. Without a source of ammonia, these bacteria will not reproduce or multiply and your cycle will last in excess of 3 weeks if not in excess of a month.
