You need this for sewing stretch and knit fabrics! I ONLY use it on a spool - regular thread is on top! Insert the bobbin threader by hand while letting it wind very slowly so that it doesn't pull the thread too hard. This allows me to sew with a straight stitch (maybe a little longer) on my standard machine and not worry about the threads breaking. I also use the walking/constant feed foot, which is also great for knitting and quilting.
