PLEASE DON'T DO WHAT I DID (read update!)

**IMPORTANT UPDATE AT THE END**For the price and quality, I am happy with my purchase. The Wyze doorbell works as advertised and although I didn't have a doorbell and the existing wiring for the original external doorbell didn't work. My sister's grandson opened the package and found that there is a protective rubber pad on the back of the camera at the top, which allows you to use an Android-style phone charger cable to power the camera, HOORAY! So I drilled a hole in my wall and put a wire through the hole and it works. To date there are no problems. 2-3 weeks installed. Will update this if anything changes for better or worse. Update (and that's not good): Less than a week after posting the review above, I'm having issues which I'll explain below. Little did we know that the rubber grommet on the back of the camera just covers the port to keep it waterproof, and it's up to the manufacturer to do what they have to do with the camera. Little did I know that removing the rubber grommet would void the warranty until yesterday when I started having issues with the camera not connecting to my app which has been going on since yesterday and continues all night and to this day. I've checked the camera several times to make sure my connections are good, but the problems persist. Yesterday I finally got tired of dealing with this alone and decided to troubleshoot using the WYZE app and that's when I magically discovered that my sister's grandson unknowingly voided my warranty by removing the rubber grommet, to use his grandmother's phone charger cord for meals. that's to see how it works... which he did when he took it out of the box and found the hidden power connector behind the rubber part. He's 13 years old and growing up in the digital age, but he didn't know that doing so would void my warranty because there were no warnings about it. I don't think it's right that my guarantee expires in this way if WYZE doesn't warn and inform its customers better. a warning about this issue - not only in the doorbell info but right above the camera when you open the box there should be a warning ⛔️ in huge red letters or something and besides that should have been done as well. The camera clearly won't work in homes without previously working doorbell wiring. As I found quite by accident that such power can ruin the camera as they said the voltage coming from the wall doesn't match the voltage going to the doorbell wiring according to WYZE troubleshooting and the camera itself or whatever is worse, it can even start a fire in the house. I'd say it deserves people knowing about it in big red letters on the back of the camera or as soon as you open the box and in the camera info or SOMETHING easy to see right? So all said, not recommended. Especially not for those who live in a house where the doorbell wiring is no longer working unless you are able and willing to run new wiring to power that doorbell cam. There definitely should have been big red letters warning of this and there weren't any. I don't blame the kid. I blame WYZE! This is the first problem I've ever had from them and it's a BIG problem for me. To be honest I still have a sour taste in my mouth about WYZE! I've bought three of their products and doubt I'll buy anything from them again without noticing a big change in the way the company communicates important safety information to people about their products!

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • poorly thought out
