Perfect blades, at least for my skin and beard.

Maybe one day you, like me, will throw your hands up in disgust and say it gets a little embarrassing to pay Gillette $40 or more for 12-blade cartridges. I see that in some stores these blade cartridges are locked up and the seller has to pick them up! They of course make a great product that gives a great shave. But on a business trip, I happened to be sitting next to one of Gillette's executives and asked him why their blades had become so expensive. He said their product took a billion dollars to develop (um, it's not a space shuttle), but then half-jokingly added that it was also a payment for his bonuses! That conversation eventually got me into using a safety razor, just like my dad did along with the rest of the men's shaving world a generation ago. From a user's perspective, there is a much smaller frame of reference to seek opinions and advice than online blogs. I took the advice on a website to choose one of the blade sets for sale to introduce you to different manufacturers and which blades would work best for my skin, beard and sensitivity. I've also read rave reviews of the Japanese brand Feather Blades and their notorious surgical sharpness. I thought they were great blades, but they were actually too sharp for me! Dorco blades are made in Korea, a country known for its advanced products and manufacturing. Sorry for the pun. They turned out to be the perfect combination of perfect sharpness, good life and durability, and a great price. They cost about $0.06 per blade as opposed to Gillette which costs $3 plus each! Finding the right recipe for the pen, shaving cream, etc. still required some experimentation. But those Dorco blades are the cornerstone for me. Every now and then I use a feather blade to assert my allegiance to Dorko, and inevitably my face looks like I've been involved in a vile alley with a gang of raiders. Anyone starting out with a safety razor should still buy one of these varied sets of blades. For me, however, I cannot recommend these blades enough. Get the same close, safe shave as Gillette for 1/50th the price!
