As a longtime bourbon drinker, I'm always on the hunt for the perfect glass and ice. So I jumped at it as soon as I saw it. The thing about bourbon (or any other whiskey) is that you can add a little water to cool it down and open up the flavor. But don't add too much water or it will be too diluted. This glass offers a unique solution: Freeze ice directly at the bottom of the glass so there is less melting surface and the water is released more slowly. The glass and rubber ice insert appeared to be well designed at first. You simply insert the rubber mold into the jar and pour water into the small hole at the top. There's even a nice reservoir to direct a jet of water down the hole for easier refilling. But when I took it out of the freezer I found that the mold doesn't hold its shape well. There were creases in the ice that allowed the ice to reveal more of the bourbon (aside from not being aesthetically pleasing). I'll play around with this to see if I can improve the result, but it looks like it should be easier. Another factor to consider is this: Ice cream made this way still contains many impurities. Ideally you want an ice making process that allows contaminants to settle outside of the ice itself. It is significantly cheaper than comparable ice cream/glasses. So if you want basic glass without the big expense and don't mind some of the downsides, this is decent value for money.
