My EVGA GTX 1070 SC was blocking the PCI-E 1X port just below. I had previously tried one piece 1X riser adapters which turned out to be poorly done Chinese soldering that sat too high and was still blocked by the graphics card in the 16X position. This expansion was my last hope before removing the GPU cooler and replacing it with an NZXT Kraken G12 or G10. Luckily it turned out. Hardly. I had to remove a piece of metal jewelry that was attached to the graphics card with four hex head screws. Once removed, the graphics card could be properly installed with the 1X extension cable. The EVGA GTX 1070 fits perfectly, so I assume this will work with any current variant of the GTX line. I have previously tried a 1X 90 degree extension and a one piece extension. None of them worked. A 1X to 16X adapter won't work either, as the USB cable doesn't wipe the GPU. It worked great!
