Review on 🧤 Enhanced Performance: Black Diamond Soloist Finger Weather Gloves by Josh Schaefer

Revainrating 5 out of 5

High-quality implementation of dubious design

It all depends on the fit. If this glove fits you (it seems designed for narrow long fingers) you won't be disappointed, it's very well made. If not, then there are analogues from other manufacturers. As for the whole split finger glove concept, it's clearly a compromise between dexterity and warmth, between gloves and mittens. The only way to comfortably hold an ice ax in a mitt is to wear this mitt 1-2 sizes larger than you would normally wear (hint - the lining of this mitt is identical to BD Mercury mitts). And that led to the split finger design. If I were making them, I'd give the index finger more insulation, aiming to (almost) take the best of both worlds. As far as I know, no manufacturer does that. So often you get the worst of both worlds – poor consolation that the three fingers are fine when the index finger is frozen.

  • There's something to it
