My pup weighs about 1.5 pounds, his back is 7.5 inches long and that's what I believe. I think I bought the xs but could have (should) have increased one because each of us is uncomfortable or easy to take off. The material is thick enough but not heavy, not enough for a snowy day. The hood closes with a tiny button and still stays in place without getting in the way, which is so cute. cuts well for a young boy, no posts. Can't tell how it washes, but I'll be ordering more (one size up!) so will update if shrinkage occurs. These are great sweatshirts and this brand is amazing, wish there were more!
