So far I am very impressed with this laser. The results in the photos came after I quickly printed the bracket to attach to the hot end bracket on my Portal 3D printer. I was able to drive the 12V PWM with a simple voltage divider to switch the fan's PWM from 24V to 7V - it's noisy and requires a MOSFET driver, but it worked well enough for my first project. Nice clean lines on cardboard (1.5% pwm) and even decent results wiping paint off an aluminum project box (25% pwm, 1w). Snoopy engraved on bamboo with 0.08mm resolution and 5% PWM power. It was an impulse buy and I didn't think it would come close to the advertised optical power of 5.5 watts so I went with the highest power advertised as I wanted to etch the paint off of these boxes. However, the beam is slightly larger (0.04mm vs. 0.03mm) than the lower powered 2.5W laser. I think you will only engrave wood/colour, you might want to consider the 2.5w option.
