Yes, if you are traveling cross country you will need a set of these. As an old desert racer, I never used them. In the woods of Louisiana I discovered their value. When a bunch of vines brakes on the front brake while going uphill, it's not as fun as it sounds. It probably looked pretty weird being dropped on my butt so fast I didn't even realize it was vines. Next time it happened about a mile down the trail. I have understood. They are durable and installation is fairly easy.
