Excellent Video and Keyboard KVM

I recently replaced my previous monitor with a Dell 2716dg but my VGA based KVM at the time did not work with this monitor as Dell did not have a VGA input. The first solution I tried was using a VGA to HDMI converter. Although it worked, I wouldn't recommend it. Text was not clear, resolution was limited to 1920 x 1080, image stability was not very good at times. Sometimes the vertical elements on the display appeared wavy and I suspect this was due to the transducer heating up as it was quite warm. Another problem with a VGA to HDMI converter (or any other video converter) is that your computers don't know the monitor they're connected to; You see the transducer, not the monitor. Therefore, no monitor drivers are used for your specific monitor. At this point I decided that a new KVM was needed. After some research I settled on the Avocent SV240H, the HDMI switcher version. The quality of the device is quite good in terms of video and keyboard. Switching between computers is pretty quick, a little less than 1 second. The display quality is quite good, there were absolutely no problems in this regard. I used to agree with other reviewers about the poor sound quality. That's not the case, however, as further troubleshooting has isolated this from the sound quality of a new laptop plugged into the Switch - my rating has been changed to 5 stars. A small downside is the difficulty in finding documentation and cables for this KVM. Found Avocent cables that combine video, USB, and audio. Since they're $60 each, I didn't buy them. What you need for 4 ports: (4) USB A-to-B cables for keyboard and mouse (4) USB A-to-B cables for USB devices - These are optional. (4) 3.5mm audio cable (male to male) (4) HDMI cable (or any other video cable you need: DVI, DisplayPort or HDMI) (1) USB keyboard. (1) USB mouse Use google to find the user manual and installation guides (they're not hard to find)
