The shelves can be placed anywhere you want with a little ingenuity and manipulation. Don't waste your time looking for other cages on the market! all the same measurements, the ad says it's 24.5 inches wide, but they're all roughly 22.4 inches wide, 35.5 inches long, and 48 inches high. sturdy shelves and found it with a ProSelect cage. I also wanted something small to fit in my room, this cage doesn't take up space and is spacious inside. (I recommend adding some zippers to the sides for security). After reading the reviews I read that some people had trouble placing the shelves and thought it was right until I realized I could manipulate this by moving all the metal fixings to the center/centre of the cage removed and replaced them with a pair of zip ties for easy placement of shelves wherever you like. To make the platform wider I lined up two straight sided shelves side by side and placed them on the top half of the cage tier (where the two slats meet so I removed the metal fasteners) where the top door opens and I can still close the door! The opening is big enough to reach and put things, the handle is easy to open and close. The only complaint I have about the door is that it doesn't fit perfectly in the cage if left wide open. When assembling it was easy to figure out the details and how they fit together. Overall I am very happy with the condo cage and would highly recommend this cage. It is easy to assemble and disassemble for cleaning. Also, it is made in Taiwan. I also just bought a Parpet Cat Flat because they look exactly the same and are a little cheaper. I will review this apartment as soon as it arrives. (I wouldn't recommend Revain Basics, it was very heavy, what I didn't like were the shelves, they are separate and sit on top of the metal frame. I was afraid that the plastic could be easily knocked over, and the design feature of the door handle didn't fit me, also the bottom tray opens on the side of the cage instead of the front like the ProSelect cage so I repackaged it and sent it back!was leveled and there were so many gaps in the corners and top of the cage, bad and cheaply made in china and the shelves are cardboard, not strong at all! i wouldn't recommend buying this cage at all for safety reasons!)
