Review on Scosche D4TFCAMK Monitor License Interface by Troy Houston

Confusing next to strong wifi black screen good picture when it works easy installation

Installation was very easy. I had to use a small screwdriver to open the USB charging port. It never finished charging so after 20 hours I just installed it. Since then I haven't noticed any problems with the battery, it always seems to be charged. It mounts under two license plate screws on the back, and the screen only has a 12V plug with an on/off switch. Took about 10 minutes (had to find a large screwdriver for the plate screws) but was easy. comes with special screws so nobody can just walk by and unscrew it from your plate. it bulges a little but is quite invisible. The screen is bright enough during the day and dark enough at night not to dazzle you. The screen is low resolution but certainly good enough for what it is, its very wide angle allowing you to see SUVs and the like in parking lots. It has lines that give you an estimate of the distance, but they do NOT rotate with the wheel. The on-screen video speed is good, I'd say probably 30 fps, so moving objects are still easy to see. The picture is good, handles all lighting scenarios well, allowing you to see obstacles or people/cars clearly. Next to another 2.4 GHz signal (WLAN), the connection to the camera seems to be lost. You will get a black screen with spacer lines. Timed out without connection. Once you move away from the signal, it appears to connect. I haven't had any issues in most car parks etc, but many people at home have had issues with it when it starts up, with that blank screen. I contacted tech support but never got a reply. There doesn't seem to be a reboot or anything that fixes this issue. Since I set the timeout to 60 or 90 seconds, it often connects when I leave the house and suddenly gives me a signal, but obviously it's too late.

Pros
  • nice thing
Cons
  • some problems
