JBL Extreme VS SRS X-33 VS OontZ Angle 3XL ULTRA VS UE Megaboom

I've replaced my amazing little Sony SRS X-33 with what I was hoping was a major upgrade. I first bought a Sony SRS X-55 but due to the high price something was missing so I went back and after researching the internet settled on the UE Megaboom. While the Megaboom's design and performance were fantastic, it had disappointing bass. I decided to stop by Best Buy to get a quick overview of what's on offer and what's on display. My visit lasted between 10 minutes and an hour. Best Buy offers about 20 portable wireless speakers connected to a music source that can be tested. Of all the models, one shines the best; JBL Extreme. Best Buy didn't agree with that price, so I decided to go home and buy it from Revain. At home I continued my search and came across the OontZ Angle 3XL ULTRA. One reviewer claimed to have heard it with JBL and wrote that he and friends preferred it to JBL for the volume and bass. I'm not looking for volume (although it doesn't hurt), I'm looking for a rich and full sound. I chose JBL and Oontz. Today I listened to Sony, UE, JBL and Oontz side by side and here are my findings: #4 Sony SRS X-33: My little Sony still has an amazing sound, it's just small and so does the sound. #3 OontZ Angle 3XL ULTRA: Although louder than Sony, highs aren't as clear as JBLs or UEs, and lows are better than UEs, but don't come close to JBLs either (thanks, dishonest reviewer with an agenda). to glorify an unworthy speaker, probably for personal gain) #2 UE Megaboom: The highs and mids on this speaker are fantastic and beat the JBL by a tiny margin. The design, waterproofing, size, battery charging via any Micro USB is far superior to JBL, but there is no sound at low frequencies. Putting the speaker in a corner helps, but there's still no clear base. More of a phantom bass. #1 JBL Extreme: Although twice the weight and larger, with inferior tech compared to the UE, this was my pick. The sound is so rich and full, far better than anything else I've tested. It's worth noting that it can get really loud and still sounds fantastic. There are other features I haven't mentioned like battery life and specs that really matter, but I've focused on what really matters, the sound. Hope that helps.

Pros
  • Take crystal-clear calls through the speaker with the touch of a button for hands-free calling with noise and echo cancellation.
Cons
  • No Power
