These sponges are a great alternative to plastic/polymer dishwashing sponges. I cut the sponges in half to fit my small hands, effectively doubling the amount of sponges I get for the price. When the sponge reaches the end of its useful life, I throw it in the compost. The sponge itself is soft and light on glass; However, I have to use something else to clean cast iron and stainless steel cookware. The sponge is too soft for washing dishes, but it does a great job for general cleaning.
