Review on BLUETTI SP120 Solar Panel - 120W for AC200P/EB70/AC50S/EB150/EB240 Solar Generator, Portable Foldable Panel for Camping, Vanlife, Off-Grid Power by Todd Vesci

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great performance in a small, lightweight package

TLDR: I highly recommend this panel for its quality build, power delivery and form factor. It's priced on the higher end, but justified and reasonably priced in my opinion. The two-year warranty helps dispel some doubts about the design and performance. I hope they consider making a smaller form factor that fits more easily in a backpack. Details: As Bluetti is better known for their portable battery generators, I didn't know what to expect from this solar panel. But when I picked it up, I immediately noticed that it was of high quality. Instead of USB connections and the use of various DC ports as with other panels on the market, there is only one weatherproof housing to which the MC4 connections are connected via a long cable. This is a much better option as multiple panels can be connected and used when wet. Judging by the pictures this panel is very easy to set up, you can set it up like an accordion, kick your legs and adjust the panel to the right angle. Some other panels are not so easy to implement. Output Rating: During my search for a more portable solar solution, many of the panels I tested and eventually returned underperformed their rated output. I am happy to report that this is not the case. With optimal lighting, i.e. with a completely clear sky, I got a constant 6.2 to 6.6 amps from the panel. This corresponds to their quoted rating. After my charge controller, which charges my lithium iron phosphate batteries with 14.6 volts, I got a reading of about 8 amps. We calculate and get 116 watts. Also, these panels still work well in the cloud. Form Factor: This panel is highly portable, measuring 16.3 inches long and 16.1 inches wide. This, combined with the low weight, makes it a very good solar solution. It's a lot easier to set up than the 100 watt Renogy Eclipse I also have. The Renogy Eclipse is a newer, lighter version optimized to a folded size of 21 inches long and 21 inches wide and weighs just under 20 pounds. In the photos I placed the Bluetti panel next to the Renogy. It's amazing how small a Bluetti panel is compared to a more traditional panel design. Construction/Durability: Bluetti is an ETFE laminated panel made from Sunpower cells using a durable fabric that appears to be abrasion resistant. The design and the basic efficiency of the solar cells keep the Bluetti modules light and form factor. There are dimples on the ETFE layer, apparently to improve performance. I'm currently unsure of the Bluetti's durability compared to a more traditional panel like the Renogy, but the fact that it specifically states a 2-year warranty is another thing that helps set it apart from other options .
