I have never used sepia ink sticks before. I am well acquainted with the black inks offered by Stadtlers and also those by Derwent. They didn't convince me, the stem is a bit thick for my taste and the lines don't lay as well as my Stadler ink. Pens, and they're terrible for going over pencil lines. Had to buy the Derwent version, I was impressed with their gray ink pens, can't remember why I bought them and not these. There should be 4 sizes larger than 3 in this set. I think it's ok to play around with them but not a big fan of them.
