I bought this open walking leg shortly after buying the one I hated. True, the lever of the old one rested on the needle bar, which made it easier to install the foot. However, this can result in the lever getting stuck in the up position and the feed dog not working properly, resulting in lumps of fabric. So the current one has a forked lever that should move up and down with the arrow, which is a definite plus. It also has plenty of room where the fabric goes, where the racks are, while the one it replaced had so little room that it was difficult to maneuver the quilt sandwich. Another thing I preferred about the old one was that the part that screwed it to the sewing machine was metal and the current one is plastic so I have to be careful when tightening it down so I don't break it. I know it can happen because I've done it before! Where it screws into the sewing machine if that part was metal instead of plastic I would give this review 5 stars instead of 4.
