Gootium has become a favorite of mine, as I own another bag by them (the canvas full grain leather laptop bag pack, which I LOVE), and this one doesn't disappoint. I will preface this review by stating that I received this bag in return for my honest review. The quality of their canvas is very durable and can withstand the weight (which I've put to the test with way-too-heavy books). When I first received this bag, I really questioned the type of closures they used. I didn't think that the buckles would make it very easy to get in and out of the bag, as magnet closures do, but if you don't completely buckle the strap down it's actually very easy to get into the bag quickly while ensuring that it is closed. The closures for the smaller front pockets are magnets, and these pockets are the perfect size to throw your phone, keys, gum, travel lotion, ear buds, etc. The straps are adjustable so you can make it fit more snuggly. The top of the bag closes with a drawstring, and while it doesn't fasten tightly I've never had any issues with it opening or being a problem (you could also tie the drawstring if you wanted). The inside of the bag is quite roomy. I commute to school by bike and have been able to put my laptop (a MacBook Air), my 5-subject notebook, a school book, a planner, my liter Nalgene, my bike U-lock, and my lunch bag inside easily (for my pictures I loaded my largest school book in for effect, but I don't typically carry that thing anywhere outside my house. That said, I still load this backpack up and it's fine!). There are two inner pockets that are deep enough to hold pens/pencils without them falling out. They are also big enough to hold a phone and then some, which I really like about this bag. The inner pocket for the laptop is nicely padded, though only on one side. The part touching your back is not padded. Inside this laptop sleeve is a hidden zipper pocket, which I really enjoy having for my wallet and any valuables that I don't want to put in the outside pockets. Overall, this pack is a great deal for what you get. It's of really great quality and the canvas is very sturdy, and it's a great size for school and/or travel. I know with my other Gootium pack, I've used it as a weekender bag for quick getaway trips, or to carry around while exploring a new city. I really like having all the different pockets, and pockets that are deep and roomy!Cons:-The straps aren't padded, so if you have a lot of weight in the pack, it has potential to strain on your shoulders. So far, I haven't had any problems and I'll wear it on my bike for 30 minutes loaded up with my day's needs; but I could see it possibly being an issue if you were to carry heavy books for a longer period of time in there.-The buckle and drawstring are not my favorite for a backpack, but that's more of a personal preference. I really thought it was going to be a pain in the rear to be able to get in and out of the pack quickly, but it has proven me wrong in this regard.
