Yes, miracles don't happen. It would be a miracle to polish heavily oxidized aluminum, work a little with an angle buffer and achieve a mirror finish. There is nothing - NOTHING - it can do. And there is nothing that can be sprayed to remove the heavy oxidation. All polishing done. I am rebuilding a 1953 Airstream that has probably never been polished and has spent the last 22 years on a farm in the hot sun. (A tree grew through the tongue.) In general, it is heavily oxidized. The surface resembles fine sandpaper. Now these vintage Airstreams have been made from fully clad aluminum with a thin surface layer of soft metal giving them a true high gloss finish you don't see on new ones. You really can restore it to that state, but this polish won't do it. Paint alone is not enough. It takes many steps with abrasives to remove scratches and several steps with different polishes to restore shine. That's more than I want to do, so I decided to go the extra mile that Politur can do. This is the one I chose. Because it is a polish, it cannot remove scratches. Neither this nor any other polish removes all oxidation in one pass. Requires multiple applications, black oxide removal and buffing after each application. If your aluminum isn't too badly oxidized, i.e. cloudy, but has no visible knots of oxidation, you can get a pretty good finish in two to three applications. Strong oxidation lasts three, four or more times. And that with the help of an angle grinder polisher and lots of wool applicators. You shouldn't try to do everything in one pass as you will create so much black oxide that it will be difficult to remove. It's impressive enough that one polish can actually go through a lot of oxidation. you get dirty You can just throw away your clothes when the project is complete. And you will need a lot of cotton rags for buffing. (We bought them by the pound from Goodwill, where they dump pounds of excess.) You use one to rub off the oxide and the other to polish it before finishing it off with your orbital buffer. The result, when aged, will still show its age, but the luster can be good enough to read the reflection in a newspaper. Tried other paints. None I've tried worked as well as this one. I'm about a third through the project, an 18ft aluminum camper. I want to use the whole 72 ounce can and then some, but I think I can make the last pass with some of the other polishes I tried first. But now I understand why they charge $3,000 to polish these things to a shine. Needless to say, if you just want to polish a new aluminum item that's just a little dull, the results are stunning. If you're making something that's slightly oxidized, a fair amount of sweat can give you a very good finish. So five stars for polishing can do everything, better than most.
