Good upgrade to 404

I received this radio a few days ago and I really like it so far. My longtime travel radio died on the trip and after looking around a bit I decided to give it a try. I almost bought the CC Skywave but a friend I was staying with at the time of purchase just bought it and seeing the problems he returned it and I got 405th size. For those who previously had 404, this is the best in the same size. Another good comparison would be Grundig G3-G5 or Kaito KA1103. All the buttons have a nice look and the display is large with a nice white backlight. This is a major upgrade from the 404-505s. The fully extended antenna is approximately 28 inches long and feels solid. Unfortunately, like the 404, it doesn't protrude far enough from the radio so it's skewed when using the kickstand. Since the radio is about 1.3 inches thick, I found myself just about to place the radio vertically. Sound This radio has good speakers and sounds very nice. The radio has a switch with 3 sound settings. (Music, Normal, and News) I've found situations where each of the three does a great job. When listening to music, the speaker has some bass and sounds good, especially when compared to other modern radios. I've had great results with headphones too. Performance and Specifications Like many other new radios, the 405 has transitioned to use a DSP chip. Depending on the radio, this can be good or bad. With this radio he is on the good side. Some older radios had digital noise caused by the chip on the AM and SW bands. Although I'm happy to say it doesn't exist. Heavy signal and image congestion is another issue, and in the case of SkyWave, it was the nail in the coffin of the return. The place where my friend lives is about a mile from a 50,000 watt MW station. SkyWave had bad pictures on all AM and SW bands, making it unusable. With the 405, I've seen about a 90% improvement in handling the same situation. I saw a few faint images, but whenever I turned on the radio they always disappeared. The ability to control AGC is also a big plus. Even with a long range, the radio works very well. I've only heard a small amount of SW so far, but it seemed on par with other radios I've used. Like almost all DSP radios, FM is excellent. The extra antenna length seems to help as I can hear stations 100 miles away even in the middle of the day. As for the batteries, it's too early to talk about that, but everything is looking good so far. The included power supply that I received is great and noiseless. With other radios that plug into USB for charging and power, that's a big plus. The presets, while limited compared to other radios, work well. You get 4 of 9 pages for a total of 36 for each group. It seems like a great job so far, but time and travel will tell. If you're looking for a non-SSB radio, this is worth a try. That being said, I'd love to see the July 22nd 506 update. I took the bus home and was able to spend a lot more time listening to the radio. FM reception is amazing. When I tried other DSP radios previously, the volume dropped significantly when the signal dropped below 50%, making them unsuitable for use in moving vehicles. With the 405 there is only a small difference and it is no worse than conventional receivers, so add that this is a list of pros for me. Also, areas congested with traditional radios with strong FM signals didn't have any problems. AM with this radio that had the option to mute was amazing. I could listen to KCBS with no problem while traveling to Los Angeles through Blythe. As an addendum to my previous image claims, my house is about 2 miles from a 5000 and a 10,000 watt station and I can't find images for either. One bad thing I found was related to memories. Other radios allow you to store the frequency across multiple pages in memory, which allows you to customize pages based on locations like Los Angeles and San Francisco, but this isn't allowed for 405s. The frequency can only be stored once, so if you don't have 36 local AM or FM stations, additional memories are a waste of time. However I think this is a solid 4 radio and will be updated as I use the radio more.
