Review on Ultimate Performance: CRUA 2560X1440P Borderless Mountable 23.8" Frameless IPS Monitor by Kevin Storley

Revainrating 4 out of 5

CR240AM - So far so good?

Update: It's been about a month since the original review was posted and everything is still 5 out of 5. I have no regrets choosing this one and I'm tempted to get more, despite its weirdness. The rest of the review is the same as below. I ordered this display as it's one of the few 1440p displays smaller than 27+ (and the nice low budget price is a bonus). Having never heard of this brand before and having found a lot of information about it online, I was obviously wary. However, the display arrived safe and sound and I don't see any dead pixels. I won't include the headphone jack in this review, maybe I'll check it out later. Good features: - Very narrow bezel around the panel itself - There are features that weren't listed such as: B. Dynamic Contrast Ratio (DCR) and crosshair overlay (four options to choose from). Pleasant bonuses - hood. The back is a plain flat back, no time or money was spent making it look "aesthetically pleasing". Don't look at the back of the display when using it, so why waste money right? The built in scaling on the panel is not bad at all. I used an active HDMI to DP cable until I got the right DP cable and the boosted 1080p was quite usable. VESA mount with small latch. More on that below. Mixed: - Only HDMI cable included. I would prefer a display port as it is becoming more and more common. One for each would be even better. The buttons are placed. strange. I know it's subjective, but the layout of the buttons from top to bottom, menu/select down/select up/exit/power seems the opposite to me. I expect the selection buttons to be first and then down. By the way, about the keys. Button descriptions are inconsistent/wrong. It lists the buttons: 1. Menu / Enter - correct 2. Volume control / select direction up (right) - wrong, this is "sight", AKA crosshair mode / direction down / left / select down (View, Menu, Slider ) ) 3. Target direction selection/down (left) is incorrect, this is volume mode (adjustment) up/right direction/up selection (target, menu, slider) 4. Source selection/output is correct 5. Power is correct On one point, the menu button shows a small window with some additional specs instead of a menu for settings, but I haven't been able to reproduce the situation of this showing up again. Turning the display on and off restored the previous operation. The power adapter (aka the wall wart) is oriented vertically, which allows it to cover all of the outlets below the outlet it's plugged into. It's also slightly shorter and plugs straight into the wall, unlike laptops where the transformer itself has cords on either side. Theoretically, spare parts can be replaced with one of these types. - No operating display. I know it seems like a very small thing, but I find that that little status indicator (on, off, sleeping) I've had on every display before is something I honestly didn't know. don't expect to miss out. Now for the VESA mount. I'm glad it's there, it's one of the selling points I wanted, but its location is far from ideal. All of the VESA mounts on my current displays are roughly in the middle of the panel, but on this display they're lower, maybe in the bottom third of the room. This places it noticeably higher compared to existing displays and causes some overlap. I was able to slide it down using only half the mounting holes, but it's not exactly stable. I'm planning to find a way to attach a plate to the back so I can expand the use of the VESA screw holes and make it more stable. Another thing I noticed. At least on my system it is "OFF" when the device is powered off. For example, when installing Win 10, it behaves as if I just unplugged the video cable, causing my desktop to switch from dual to single display. Something to keep in mind if the Windows video system decides not to put your display to sleep (for reasons, of course). I'll try to remember to update in a while for a longer term opinion/review.
