Review on Audio Technica AT LH18H Universal Mount Headshell by Jeremy Levendusky

Not impressed with body pins

I've been looking for a good body with azimuth and offset adjustment for a long time. I saw Audio Technica and it seemed like a good design to me. When I mounted my Denon DL103 on it and tried to slide the body wires over the pickup pins, the wires barely touched the pins. I had to play around with the leads and crimp them before putting them on the cartridge pins. I've used several other shells (Universal, Jelco, Ortofon) and never had this problem. Anyone who does this type of installation knows that the more you mess with wires, the more likely they are to break. The cartridge was 1.2mm, not 1mm. 1.2mm is the size of the pin used to insert the wires into the shell. 1mm is the size of the pin installed in the cartridges. I will most likely buy the Jelco HS-25 which is about $30 less and has the same azimuth and protrusion settings. Not recommended.

Pros
  • Equipped with OFC lead wires adjustable barrel offers fine azimuth and offset adjustment
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors

Nice headshell but these things are way overpriced.
