Who makes a good cable modem? Well, over the years I've been sold to big names like Motorola, Linksys, etc. I always thought Motorola's "Surfboard" line had the most impressive specs and the best performance. However, recent problems with a new Motorola modem in my home office have forced me to look for a new alternative. When an employee at a large office chain told me that this particular modem was recommended by my cable company, I thought I'd give it a try. I was not disappointed. This modem connected straight away to my ISP (CableOne) which is a first as I usually have to call them and update them with a new MAC address when I get a new modem. I've never had a modem that connects so quickly and easily right out of the box. I don't connect directly to this modem either, but I've been using a new wireless router, which has also started to impress me. This was all done on my MacBook Pro which as a Mac newbie I wasn't sure what to expect. Overall, despite the fact that I have signal issues (confirmed by the cable company), this modem is very fast compared to everyone else. I use. It's rugged, reliable, and connects quickly in the event of a power outage or simple cable signal problems. It's definitely the best and most alert little communication box I've ever used and I'm impressed with the speed at which it communicates and reconnects to an ISP if there's a problem, as well as the speed of the data I get get when downloading. If you do a lot of downloads I can't vouch for this information as I do almost nothing in normal use. Overall, I'm impressed with this little guy. Highly recommended.
