Review on πŸ–ŒοΈ Enhance Your OSU! Experience with VEIKK Digital Battery Free Pressure Tablet by Jason Dahlkemper

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Fantastically affordable and a semi-portable introduction to digital art.

I tested several low cost alternatives to help people get started with digital art. It's a great little portable tablet that works well with lots of customization options. TL; DR Pros: Inexpensive, 8k pressure sensitivity, small, thin, protective pen case, no hand/palm registration. Cons: Website can be tricky to set up (for me) Glossy finish, no pen holder. Wishlist: tilt detection. For the purposes of this review, I used Corel Painter Essentials 6 - the idea being that if you cut your tablet costs, you're probably cutting your software costs. As a Corel Painter user, I knew that Essentials had the same types of tracking and pressure sensitivity as the larger and more expensive Corel Painter 2019. In the first photo you can see the finished painting using several different brushes and techniques including the Bob brushes Ross Mystic Mountains. and then about half a dozen standard brushes. In the additional photos you can see a quick pressure test using a Fine Point pen and then an oil brush, various patterns and pressure applications yielded the same results as the Wacom Pro Pen 2. I've also highlighted some of the settings and what to do in the expect box. The tablet uses a glossy finish that makes the pen glide well, but I personally like more textured paper. So the type of surface will certainly be a personal preference, but it won't affect my ability to draw. Also, a smoother surface usually means longer pen life. The sketching is easy enough, and I could work with a ruler without a problem. It also only needs a stylus so I could put my hand on the tablet without gloves and there were no issues. I thought the smaller size would be a problem, but I was able to easily cover the canvas area and control the brush strokes and didn't even notice the size. I repeat this makes it great for use with laptops! The pressure sensitivity is displayed correctly and works as I expected. I had to adjust the curve in my program, and in Veikk, when blending, I actually had to press the pen into the surface for it to work. One of the great things, especially when you need to troubleshoot, is that the tablet has an LED light to indicate when the stylus is making contact. I'd really like to have tilt detection (although it's rare, especially at this price point) to work with some of my angle reset brushes. Setting up the pen buttons, interface, and monitor was very easy and I was able to make changes quickly. what was great! This means that when using different art programs, I can set up keyboard shortcuts to do things like undo and set colors. It took me about 35 minutes to assemble the painting and testing different techniques and brush pressure, as I said, the only time I had any problems. it was the mixing, and that was the settings and not the device itself. (I have to regularly tweak my Waco pens to solve the same problem.) The general setup can be simplified. On the page where you get the drivers, you need to click on the icon to download them. Don't point to click the icon and if you click on the text you'll be taken to a page, presumably in Chinese, which needs translation but doesn't tell you you've gone too far. A simple callback and click on the icon solved this problem. Another oddity is that you need to connect the device before installing the drivers. It doesn't make the task any more difficult as a quick guide will guide you through it, although it may seem unusual. The tablet itself is small and very thin. I like this size as it is very portable and easily fits in my laptop bag. Plus for the price if it gets lost or stolen for any reason I won't kick myself. Two things I would have liked would have been a place for a pen (a case cover is good), but all my other tablets have at least a small stand that holds the pen vertically or sideways to keep it from rolling (or holding). in your mouth)
