Super cute but Elastic is stretched out

I bought these journals for my husband and I to write to each other while he was traveling and training (He's in the military). I love everything about this except for the elastic parts. The part that holds the pen is difficult to use so I don't even use it and the elastic part that holds the book together is super stretched out even though I only use it to keep the book closed. I never excessively pulled on it or anything. Overall, I still love the book. The front cover is super sturdy and is made of good quality and the pages have all stayed intact. I would buy again!
