These lamps are just what I needed for my house's unlit pantry. I was afraid that when the door was opened the ambient light would prevent them from turning on in "automatic" mode, but apparently more light is needed for them not to work. So I placed two of these at two different heights on the sides of the pantry wall and now when I reach in both lights come on and I can see where the goodies are. The best part is that they turn off automatically after 10 seconds if I'm still not looking into them. I used to have two VERY bad flashlights and the first time I forgot to turn them off the batteries died. This gives these flashlights another plus: they can be charged via a USB port on the PC (no disassembly required, very cool). A matching USB connection cable was also included, so I didn't have to buy the right plug to connect it to the flashlight to charge the batteries. I can't comment on the value of the remote as I don't need it. Use it for this application. As others have said, the included self-adhesive backing is useless on the magnetic metal plates. I solved this problem with a few dabs of JB welding glue where the glue is. The panels now remain glued to the wall. Almost any good quality glue will do for this purpose. The magnetic mount that keeps it in place makes it very easy to remove for charging. Advantages: Flashlights can be removed and charged immediately without disassembly or tools; the included USB charging cable was a thoughtful touch; Turning on and off automatically is easy and allows me to use the lights and forget about them. They give enough light to see in dark places. Cons: The supplied adhesive on the back of the metal magnetic plates is not good at all.
