While the brass washer has an o-ring, the soldered cable connection has a simple dust cap that isn't waterproof. On the dust cap I used gutter sealant otherwise the ladder, solder and brass base are constantly exposed to water. This is only an issue if you're using a lip mount or a corner mount where the underside is exposed to the elements. If the underside of your hood, cab, or trunk is wet, you're in big trouble.
