I have been using this type of massager for several decades. I have tried different types and shapes of massagers in the past. In general, I like hard and plain plastic, like this item. But the spikes on this item are the hardest I've ever used. At first my head hurt so much that I had to hold the object very gently and rub my head gently. It took my head 3 weeks to get used to the firmness of the product and now I can rub it on my head like any other scalp massager. Due to the hardness of the plastic, the object appears indestructible. I only recommend this item to those who like a very hard massager. You should not use this item on your children unless you try it on yourself first.
