Sounds better than expected

This order was delivered faster than expected. Well packed. The player fits perfectly in the supplied bag. The case is well made and best for safe keeping. A micro card is useful because the player quickly fills up when using lossless files. The NW-A55 is beautifully finished. Fits comfortably in the hand, without sharp corners. Everything is well coordinated. The side buttons feel sturdy enough for frequent use. Very handy when the screen is off, just use the buttons to adjust the volume etc. The screen has a decent font size and is easy to read. I reviewed many players before deciding on this one. It's difficult since you can't hear it before you buy it, you just had to agree with what I read about it. The main reason I choose the NW-A55 is the ability to choose between different sound options. Especially DSEE HX. It upscales audio quality from MP3 and even FLAC from CD to high-resolution audio like audio. I don't have any Hi-Res songs, nor do I intend to buy them. So normally I wouldn't use all the high definition features of the different players. But I have thousands of MP3 and FLAC files. So now I can play them through the Sony DSEE HX and enjoy high-resolution sound. Then there's a dynamic normalizer that keeps the volume of the songs at the same level, so your ears aren't torn apart by a randomly louder recorded song when you're playing a playlist etc. There are other settings that I haven't used that much as I still just like the DSEE HX setting. The soundstage is very good. I listen with Shure SE 425 headphones, which sound better than I've ever heard with Sony. So if you want to personalize your music, the NW-A55 offers plenty of options. You can use one or mix them. Note, however, that you'll need to be using one of the listed Sony headphones to take advantage of the noise-cancelling features. Another thing to consider is the program that you download from the Sony website to manage your music library. It's easy to use, very reliable and you can find all the instructions on the Sony website. There you will also find detailed information on how to use the player. What I don't like is the radio. I can only receive one radio station. Maybe it's a headphone cable since the cable becomes an antenna. But why listen to the radio when I can have the sound of my favorite music in high definition? Oh, I didn't give much thought to the SensMe channels you can use either. But I found it very useful when you just wanted to play different music. Music is classified by mood or time of day. You have to use Sony's music management program, where it analyzes each song. It then creates channels on the player. You choose a channel and the music keeps playing. I am very happy with this purchase. I can hear high quality sound at a reasonable price. Then there's the Bluetooth option and DAC capabilities. With all audio options turned off, this Sony sounds really good. Just clear sound, no electronic background noise.
