USB Short Cable: Cables and Accessories

I bought this so that I could plug the Apple USB-C male into the USB-A female cable and then plug the USB-A male to male cable into my computer to power my Apple iPad Pro to secure. The bottom line is that it doesn't work for backup or charging. I don't know which cable is causing the problem, but I have no way of verifying this as it is a combination of USB-C and USB-A male/female interfaces. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
