The other reviewers on this item are mostly right. These are the exact same TED socks you get after open heart surgery, right down to the hole in your toes. As the packaging says, it's for "non-ambulatory patients," which translates to "people who can't walk on their own." They are not heavy enough to be worn like regular socks, but are heavy enough to be worn while sleeping. As long as you don't wear them, they keep decent. I call them "sleeping socks" because I sleep in them almost every night.
