We used this little gem to fill a hole in our home theater shoot. Our projector is an old office caliber model. Resolution and brightness were excellent, but the device lacks audio processing capability. Our video source is an HDMI-only Roku. I connected the Roku to an old Sony home theater receiver via HDMI, and then connected the receiver's HDMI output to the projector. However, the HDMI signal is only routed through the receiver. It doesn't extract the audio signal (which I think defeats the purpose of passing HDMI cables through?). Adding this device to the mix allows you to feed an audio signal into the optical input of the receiver. This is a very inexpensive solution to my particular problem. Also, he works like a champ.
