Review on ๐Ÿš— Dorman 42666 Rear Windshield Wiper Arm: Perfect Fit for Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC Models by Mark Deuschle

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Poor quality from start to finish

After two rear wiper arms broke at the same time while lowering the tailgate due to the same fault I decided to buy a cheaper replacement than a genuine General item engines. I am very disappointed when I compare the quality of two parts side by side. Dorman is marked "Made in China" and there is no Dorman logo on the box. or branding. The product is made for Dorman and sold under its own name, with a one-line mention of Dorman in multilingual instructions on a cheap plastic bag. Fear. It's not as high quality, shiny and malleable aluminum as a GM part and is sloppily pressed into the surrounding plastic, with dirt on the plastic edges and poor finish overall. The inner surface of the donut resists the harder type. Metal with flanges on the wiper motor shaft. The hole in the ring is slightly tapered so that when the stop screw is screwed in, the softer metal inside of the donut rests against the shaft flanges. This prevents the scraper from slipping on the shaft under the "loadโ€ of the scraper. If the metal does not conform to the shape of these flanges when tightened, it can damage the wiper motor shaft by rounding the flanges. The longer I watched, the more I didn't like it. The included cap is much thinner than the GM cap and the texture doesn't match that of the wiper arm so it looks crappy. The finish of the arm itself is also different from the GM arm, and the spring compressor underneath is smaller in diameter. The hose, as another reviewer pointed out, is too long and needs a few inches cut off to keep it spinning without friction. against paint on the gate during use. The rubber smells like cheap Chinese bike tires and I'm guessing it will soon spoil from UV exposure in the sun. Even the plastic connector between the hose and the sleeve on the valve is of poor quality, with crooked sealing ribs instead of round, and a partially plugged hole that had to be cleared with a paper clip (plastic that blew away during manufacture). feel stupid breaking two real GM levers, i refuse to pay another $50 and will suffer with this thing until it rots and falls off. By then I will have saved the money to buy another GM hand. I recommend doing just that the first time, buying the GM item and remembering to close the gate before lowering the garage door. --- UPDATE: I'm returning Dorman and getting real GM.

Pros
  • One year trial period
Cons
  • Broadly ok but...
