Comfortable fit (ordered medium and small to compare)

I'm 5'6/7", 135 pounds, athletic build with small hips/butt. Black shorts are small, purple are medium. Both are very comfortable, but purple/medium suits me better. I usually wear Nike running shorts, but I can fit in a medium size. I'll keep the middle one and send the small one back.
