If you use this to water your lawn from a pond or stream, don't worry about that little hole, just fill your garden hose with a tap. With the pump running, loosen the hose at the top of the pump just enough to allow some water to come out. My pump, once primed, keeps pumping every time. I'm glad I returned another pump to buy this one, much better. No problem pumping water through 75 feet of garden hose 10 feet uphill. By the way, at Lowes I only needed a $6 garden hose adapter, the young lady knew what I needed. I bought one of those 1 inch ID plastic hoses to stick in the pond. Instead of a filter valve, I already had a Parts2O TC2503LF 1" bottom valve.
