Bought this camera in preparation for a Caribbean cruise. It was great to have a waterproof camera for rainforest trips, waterfalls, kayaking, snorkeling, swimming with turtles, etc. The picture is pretty good (see other more technical picture quality reviews). It doesn't even look like a budget DSLR, but it's probably good enough for their use. I was particularly interested in taking a camera snorkeling on coral reefs. It goes down 30 feet, which is enough for diving: the maximum distance I could go down comfortably is about 20 feet. However, once you've gotten this far, there are a couple of issues I didn't know about until I got the first bad shots: 1. Much lower light levels means everything has to be *quiet*. I'm not sure why I thought this camera would magically break the shutter speed/focal length rule of thumb.2. In coastal areas, opaque water will ruin virtually all flash photography.3. Scaling doesn't really help for the above reasons. So take your usual photography habits and double them if you plan to shoot this camera underwater: stay calm, don't zoom in in low light and use the flash sparingly. especially in coastal/murky waters.
