I wouldn't have had to buy that weird cable if the product hadn't broken.

KVM is broken. The only way to test this was to buy a different cable. It was a KVM or some oddly expensive cable that is no longer good for anything. It was KVM and there is no guarantee. Never buy Sunsweetcrappy again.
